Formulation Scientist – Entry Level


BioTechnique LLC is a wholly owned subsidiary of PSC Biotech Corporation (PSC).  PSC is one of the largest specialty life science consultancies and supports clients worldwide, with a variety of comprehensive services that provide life science companies with the ability to perform at the highest standards and meet regulatory compliance requirements.  BioTechnique is a contract manufacturing organization (CMO) dedicated to providing cytotoxic and high-potency sterile injectable fill-finish services in all stages of the drug life cycle – from investigational/clinical to final marketed product.  We are located in Madison, Wisconsin.


BioTechnique is currently recruiting for a Formulation Scientist – Entry Level for our facility in Madison, Wisconsin.  The Formulation Scientist is involved in the recording of the developmental programs designed for the formulation of pharmaceutical products.   The Formulation Scientist performs this job with the help of proper analysis, arrangement, and reassessment of examination reports.  The Formulation Scientist is involved in providing profitable assistance in the collection, documentation, and survey of CMC validation processes that are related to NDA/IND filing procedures.


The Formulation Scientist  is required to maintain currency with the latest operational information about the trends, improvement methods, and functions of currently used pharmaceutical drugs and will, at times, be expected to prepare projects demanded on special requests by BioTechnique or our customers.  The Formulation Scientist will organize, design, and arrange the procedures of formal and informal constancy experimentation, chemical refining and deduction, scale up fabrication, and formulation evolution.  The Formulation Scientist will also ensure proper packaging assessment processes, procedures related to the improvement of formulation calculus methodologies, and the examination and processing of modern drug commodities and materials.  


• Attain familiarity with current concepts of pre-formulation characteristics of raw materials.


• Support the evaluating of apparent outcomes and solutions during formulation and assess based upon current scientific literature and patents.


• Provide support, contributions, and suggestions for the development of methods related to formulation.  Investigate the creation of new formulation systems and procedures.


• Support the development of new techniques, chemical patterns, and procedures for resolving technical issues.  


• Suggest productive modifications in the overall constitution of formulated products.


• Utilize various methods and technologies such as titration, FT-IR, HPLC, etc., for the examination of inorganic and organic compounds.  Identify material and chemical characteristics of formulation substances.


• Perform surveys on recently manufactured materials to generate and amend the substances.


• Consult with clients, engineers, and other scientists.


• Perform appropriate investigative procedures pertinent to the reactions, composition, relationships, structure, and properties of compounds and products.


• Create descriptions and policies for the examinations, procedures, research methods, and services designed for formulation substances.


• Create written documents that that identify and record systematic processes required to maintain the quality of the manufactured materials.


• Create stipulations and restrictions, per BioTechnique norms, for manufactured substances.  Develop MSDS sheets for these substances.


• Perform all activities in compliance with regulations, standards, and rules of BioTechnique.  


• Provide regular support for scale up troubleshooting and functioning processes.


• Generate and execute prescripts for stability investigation and shelf-life examination procedures.


• Other duties as assigned by the lead Formulation Scientist or Manufacturing Director.


• Support on-going manufacturing and validation operations by formulating products and test solutions as needed


• Education:  Must have completed at least a BS in Biomedical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or Biochemistry.


• MS or PhD in Biomedical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or Biochemistry a plus.


• High level of confidence with mathematical and scientific studies appropriate for the normal execution of the duties for this position.


• Possess knowledge of basic concepts related to materials science, biomaterials, chemical engineering, and/or pharmaceutical development studies.


• Ability to quickly develop knowledge and understanding of GMP requirements/regulations.


• Strong communication (verbal/written), organizational, interpersonal, and teamwork skills.


• Ability to effectively utilize Microsoft® Office software


• Currently eligible to legally work in the United States.



Additional Skills / Experience Desired (not required)


• Be familiar with ICH and cGXPs instructions and problems related to regulatory correspondence.


• Broad experience in formulation development in the areas of oral dosage development, cytotoxic products, and injectable drugs.


• Experience with the preparation and review of formulation development reports.


• Technical transfer and formulation experience.
